A young man leaves Massachusetts on a ship bound to harvest ice and deliver it to Charleston. When they encounter an impossible iceberg and haul a mysterious fragment on board, events are set in motion that will lead our young hero, and generations after him, on a journey to their horrible destinies on an island off the coast of South Carolina.
