
Crime and Punishment (version 2)
Crime and Punishment is a novel by Russian author Fyodor Dostoyevsky, first published in 1866. It follows Rodion Raskolnikov, an impoverished ex-student in St. Petersburg who plans and executes the murder of a pawnbroker. Raskolnikov believes the murder is justified for a higher purpose, comparing himself to Napoleon. The novel explores his mental anguish and moral dilemmas as he grapples with his actions.
