Don’t Gaslight Me, Jesus: A Dungeon Crawler Carl Podcast
An experienced reader of the Dungeon Crawler Carl universe guides three newcomers—Jennifer, Mike, and Tim—through the book series, reading a few chapters at a time and engaging in in-depth discussions. The podcast explores the unique world and characters of the series for first-time listeners.
Episodes
21 - The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook - Chapters 6 to 8
Mordecai, nooooooo! We've got some definite mixed feelings about Mordecai's fate in this episode. On top of that we've got an attempted murder of Donut to contend with. So there's a lot to talk about, though that doesn't keep us from falling down some serious rabbit holes (not skinless rabbits like in the chapters, nice, fluffy rabbits).
20 - The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook - Chapters 3 to 5
Tim missed this one, but we have some fun things happening as Carl and Donut begin to puzzle out the mystery that is the Iron Tangle.
19 - The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook - Chapters 1 and 2
We're starting a new book this week, and the feel in the room after the first couple of chapters is really optimistic. It's train time!
18 - Carl's Doomsday Scenario - Chapter 23 to Epilogue
We wrap up book 2! See if the newbies are enjoying the end of this one more than the last one which had ... well "mixed reviews" might be generous.
To let everyone know, we'll be taking a double break after this episode because Jennifer and I will be in Orlando for a couple of weeks. So we'll see you again in June!
17 - Carl's Doomsday Scenario - Chapters 20 to 22
We're almost at the end, and the story here in Medium Skyfowl Settlement is really starting to move. The crew has been waiting for something to latch onto like this since we started book 2, and they're finally getting it. It's a good thing.
16 - Carl's Doomsday Scenario - Chapters 18 and 19
Fighting in the dark, crazy showers, and then it's time to enter the Danger Zone for an assassination attempt. Yeah, they cram quite a bit into these two chapters. See what the crew is thinking as we approach the end of book 2.
15 - Carl's Doomsday Scenario - Chapters 15 to 17
We made it to the Desperado Club finally, and most of the crew is finding it pretty interesting. A couple of rooms have proven more popular than others. I suspect that you can all guess which.
14 - Carl's Doomsday Scenario - Chapters 12 to 14
These chapters are a tad slow. Not quite as much to talk about just within them, which leads to some discussion about the larger concepts of the series. And also Magic cards. Why? Search me.
13 - Carl's Doomsday Scenario - Chapters 8 to 11
Well, that quest went quicker than the crew anticipated. Weirder too. It's not every day you eat an ice cream cone full of parasitic mind control worms ... or if it is, your life is much stranger than any of ours. So, good for you I guess? Or bad? Whichever. As long as you're enjoying yourself.
12 - Carl's Doomsday Scenario - Chapters 5 to 7
We've got ourselves some serious stuff this week, folks. The quest is turning out to be even questier than we thought. And an Elite? Do people even know what that is if they haven't played WoW? Is that a thing in other games? I mean, besides Halo, because that's a different sort of deal. You see the tangent I went on in the description there? Yeah, that was to prepare you for this week's episode.
11 - Carl's Doomsday Scenario - Chapters 1 to 4
We're starting a new book this week! I'm very excited to be moving into book 2, which I feel like solves a lot of the issues the crew had with book 1, but I suppose only time will tell. It's time for race and class selection, and while some choices won't be surprising anyone, a couple might give our newbies pause (Paws? No, definitely pause.).
10 - Dungeon Crawler Carl - Chapters 45 to Epilogue
We finished the first book this week, and my oh my are there feelings about this one. After we work through all the trauma there, we've also got a couple of achievements to hand out and a little talk about the future of the show. So stay tuned through the end to hear what's happening next.
9 - Dungeon Crawler Carl - Chapters 42 to 44
Mike had to miss this one, but he sent in some thoughts that I added in at the beginning of the episode. Beyond that, this penultimate delve into the dungeon is an interesting one. We meet The Maestro and go on Death Watch Extreme Dungeon Mayhem. With a name like Death Watch Extreme Dungeon Mayhem, it has to be good. Glurp, glurp!
8 - Dungeon Crawler Carl - Chapters 38 to 41
The rage elemental arrives, and the rage elemental is no more. Carl exploits a bug (or feature?) in the game to take down a high-level monstrosity, and our podcast crew is here for it (well, mostly). We're in the home stretch now, just a couple more episodes until the end of the book. So how well can these folks predict where things are headed?
7 - Dungeon Crawler Carl - Chapters 33 to 37
Despite the entire podcast crew being sure it is certain to happen any moment, the Meadowlark party of old folks is still alive and kicking ... well, alive anyway. But the way these chapters end seems likely to be the moment that everything changes. It's like the Fire Nation is about to attack. Also, Hi, Zev!
6 - Dungeon Crawler Carl - Chapters 28 to 32
So the Odette interview was ... a thing, well, a couple of things, really. The crew overall seems to find that pretty interesting, to the point where coming back to the dungeon and discovering that the second floor was more or less identical to the first came as something of a disappointment. All is not lost though as we make our approach to the first boss fight of Floor 2.
5 - Dungeon Crawler Carl - Chapters 24 to 27
Jennifer had to miss this episode for a charity event, and it's a shame because this was a big one. We finished floor 1, fought a borough boss, and then we came up with something for listeners who leave us a 5 star review. It's ... a thing. A thing for certain. So make sure you listen through the end so you don't miss it.
4 - Dungeon Crawler Carl - Chapters 19 to 23
We finally meet some other crawlers, living ones even! Not only that, but the list of things the crew has been asking for is getting checked off at a furious rate. Either they've been good all year, or Santa forgot to check his list twice. We've got a homeless person, some old folks, Frank Q., the hits just keep coming. Also, sorry about the audio on this one. It speeds up and slows down at random
3 - Dungeon Crawler Carl - Chapters 11 to 18
Things kick off with a bang this week, literally, as we head into our first ever boss fight. The crew is horrified, disgusted, and excited in approximately equal measure as they watch Carl and Donut face The Hoarder. They start catching on to some of the fun of this series as this section really begins to grab them (this time figuratively, not literally).
2 - Dungeon Crawler Carl - Chapters 5 to 10
Finally, the loot! That's what we're all here for, right? Oh ... and the cat talks now. Who knew? Jennifer and Mike, you say? Huh. Fine. Whatever. I'll pay more attention next time.
1- Dungeon Crawler Carl - Chapters 1 to 4
Our new readers dip their toes into the Dungeon Crawler Carl world, meeting Carl, Donut, and their game guide Mordecai. Where will things go from here? Will the cat somehow start talking? Good questions.
