Popular History of the Art of Music
This podcast presents a readable account of the entire history of the art of music within a single volume, covering the same scope as standard histories but in a more concise format. The author, W.S.B. Mathews, draws on his lectures at the Chicago Musical College over five years. He aims to treat later developments with proportionate importance due to their proximity to the reader's time. The work makes free use of standard histories by Fétis, Ambros, Naumann, and others.
