The PoliticsGirl Podcast

Meidas Media Network, Leigh McGowan 245 Episodes Aug 18, 2026

American Democracy is not promised to us and, with all the forces working against it, saving it will take a level of work most people aren’t ready for. The Politics Girl Podcast is here to give people a reason to care and a reason to fight. Our goal is to inspire. To instill in people a true understanding of what this country COULD be, if the right people were fighting for it, and what it WILL be if they don’t. It’s a political podcast yes, but more than that, it’s a podcast about America’s potential, where one passionate, and slightly mouthy, immigrant attempts to motivate the country to become what it promised to be but, so far, has yet to become. You’ll leave more knowledgeable, more engaged, and more sure that you, personally, can make a difference to the future of American democracy.

Last Line of Defense: A Conversation with California Attorney General Rob Bonta Aug 18, 2026 2550 The Attorney General’s job is to enforce the laws on behalf of their people, and state Attorney Generals are even more essential now that we have a federal Attorney general who’s made it clear he doesn’t work for the people, but for the president. AG Bonta reminds us that lawsuits aren’t about slapping lawbreakers on the wrist, but structural remedies that make the law work better for the people.
We Don't Believe You: A Conversation with Anne Applebaum
We Don't Believe You: A Conversation with Anne Applebaum Aug 11, 2026 2536 There are plenty of groups that see this drastic change in the American political system as something that can work for them. If the goal is power, or retained power, everyone from white and christian nationalists, to the billionaire class, the patriarchy and the predators have found their champion in the Trump administration. If everything is for sale and no institution is sacred, they an do what
We Can Do Better Than This
We Can Do Better Than This Aug 4, 2026 2335 We went away this summer and the trip reminded me that many of our peer nations live far better than we do. Not just with their universal healthcare and walkable cities, but their respected working class and work/life balance. These are cultures that break for lunch. The people have reasonable work hours and take weeks, if not a month, off in the summer. They are better stewards of the human exper
Fascism isn’t New to America: A Conversation with Joseph Kelly
Fascism isn’t New to America: A Conversation with Joseph Kelly Jul 28, 2026 3411 America is once again in a battle over who we are and what we stand for. Does this country only belong to a privileged group, or is it for, as our Declaration Of Independence and Pledge of Allegiance tells us, for ALL of us? As Professor Joseph Kelly says, our founding fathers knowingly made concessions against what they knew to be right at our establishment, and by kicking the can of equality dow
I Don’t Recognize This Country: A Conversation with John Pavlovitz
I Don’t Recognize This Country: A Conversation with John Pavlovitz Jul 21, 2026 3261 John Pavlovitz reminds us that what’s happening in America isn’t independent of who we are. That any position of privilege we may hold in this world is a currency we must leverage on behalf of others. That while we might be grieving the country we thought we were, we have to get serious about the person we know we are to make sure our actions are in line with our values. Our values can not be our
States Rights Baby! A Conversation with the State’s Project’s Daniel Squadron
States Rights Baby! A Conversation with the State’s Project’s Daniel Squadron Jul 14, 2026 2822 The power to really take back our country is most efficient, and the least expensive, through the states. We can work together with our people to flip state houses across the country so when the federal government tries to strip us of our rights, we have an strong line of defense at the state level to protect our liberties, shore up our civil rights, and make sure the seats for the federal governm
Hang On America: A Conversation with Heather Cox Richardson
Hang On America: A Conversation with Heather Cox Richardson Jul 7, 2026 2882 Our country is a mess. As Heather Cox Richardson says, we have a president doing everything he can, with the assistance of the Supreme Court, and the capitulation of the Republicans in Congress, to overturn the system we’ve built. So what are we going to do about it, and how do we get the people disillusioned or shut down right now to dial back in? As always, if you find worth in what we do, pl
Let’s Get Our Country Back: A Conversation with Oath’s Brian Derrick
Let’s Get Our Country Back: A Conversation with Oath’s Brian Derrick Jun 30, 2026 2971 We’re fired up and ready to get the country back, but what’s the most effective action to take for us to do that? In my opinion, donating to Oath, or telling Oath what you care about and want to accomplish is a great first step. As the founder of Oath, Brain Derrick tells us, we don’t need to outspend the billionaires, we need to outthink and outvote them. Oath is the shortcut to our fighting the
The Biggest Scandal…A Conversation with Heidy Torres
The Biggest Scandal…A Conversation with Heidy Torres Jun 23, 2026 3102 Latin American expert Heidy Torres sounds the alarm on HondurasGate, a scandal of epic proportions that no one is talking about. These men and their representatives are talking about Donald Trump remaining in powe
This Administration is a Joke: A Conversation with Timothy Snyder
This Administration is a Joke: A Conversation with Timothy Snyder Jun 16, 2026 3217 America is a wreck. The question is what are we going to do about it? As today’s guest, Timothy Snyder reminds us, every action we take, every group we join, every act of resistance we partake in, no matter how small, will help. That while the people in charge are doing everything possible to collapse American power and could be wildly successful, they could also fail spectacularly, and it’s up to
Never Ending Election Lies: A Conversation with Marc Elias
Never Ending Election Lies: A Conversation with Marc Elias Jun 9, 2026 3582 Donald Trump and the Republicans, with an assist from the Supreme Court, seem willing to do anything they can to make sure they retain power in 26, regardless of the will of the voters. That why what’s happening with the voter fraud narrative in California isn’t just sour grapes, but a disinformation wave growing to build a case that votes can’t be trusted, that they need a national list, that the
Pass the Torch! : A Conversation with Run for Something’s Amanda Litman
Pass the Torch! : A Conversation with Run for Something’s Amanda Litman Jun 2, 2026 2851 We can no longer wait to be saved. It’s time to step up and save ourselves because Democratic leadership isn’t going to do it - if anything they need to be encouraged to pass the torch, because at the end of the day voters don’t vote for policy or even party, they vote for candidates they believe in. We need to be electing those people to local and state office now, so we have them in the wings fo
