Buffy the Gilmore Slayer: A Buffy and Gilmore Girls Podcast
Buffy the Gilmore Slayer is a podcast hosted by comedians and real-life couple Bryan Morris and Stacey Kulow. Bryan grew up obsessed with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, while Stacey is a longtime Gilmore Girls fan, but neither has seen the other's favorite show. Each week they watch one episode from each series and discuss them side by side. Together they work through all seven seasons of both shows and debate which one is better. Bryan and Stacey are New York-based writers and performers who met doing improv in Madison, Wisconsin.

A Crossover Movie Event!
Guys, we’re back, and we brought some friends! Instead of comparing two shows, we joined forces with the hosts of another Buffy podcast, Boys Watching Buffy, to review a movie starring a Gilmore Girl: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. We chat all about the sometimes cringe, yet surprisingly emotional summer adventures of Carmen, Lena, Bridget, Tibby(!?), and their shared, dirty, pair of regul

We've Been Busy, But We're Still Here!
Happy early American Thanksgiving! It's been a couple months since we released our last episode, so we wanted to let you know what we've been up to. We catch you up on everything we've been watching. We share some highlights from our recent trip to the Pacific Northwest including a few brushes with danger. We share a bit about our trip to Connecticut to host the Gilmore Girls cast p

Firebuns Wrap-up
We did it! We watched and compared Joss and Amy's other two shows. They didn't have quite as much in common as Buffy and Gilmore, but they are both about ragtag groups of people who become each other's found family, led by reluctant heroes. Also both shows feature young, thin, petite girls who can do impressive stuff with their bodies. Oh, and Mitchum! We discuss what worked about t

Bunheads Final Four: Part 2
Bunheads Episode 17 "It's Not a Mint"/Bunheads Episode 18 "Next!"Welp, that's a wrap on Bunheads... did not expect it to end in the middle of a sex ed lesson, but at least we got a cool final dance. We begin with a Bracebridge-esque, town-hunkering-down-together episode, featuring Sean Gunn as basically Kirk. Then we watch as Michelle tries to balance her goals of ach

Serenity
Our discussion on the conclusion to the Firefly series: "Serenity"This week we catch up with the crew of Serenity in their feature film! Fortunately, this little show was blessed with the chance to tie up some loose ends. It ties up some of the, arguably, most interesting ends, however, we do wish they had a bit more time to focus on certain characters. We get cameos from a couple famous

Bunheads Final Four: Part 1
Bunheads Episode 15 "Take the Vicuna"/Bunheads Episode 16 "There's Nothing Worse Than a Pantsuit"Witness the drama unfold as boyfriends *gasp* try to sit with their girlfriends at lunch, and Michelle and her brother... don't go to Burning Man? You thought Michelle's brother was bad? Wait till you meet their mom! Sasha's new apartment has everyone in a tizzy.

A Touch of Madness
Firefly Episode 14 "Objects in Space"/Bunheads Episode 14 "The Astronaut and the Ballerina"This week's Firefly introduces a man by the name of Early: a complex, interesting, possibly mad character that we'd love to see more of. Unfortunately this was the last episode... Meanwhile, Bunhead Ginny is driven to madness by some parental drama. AND... coincidentally, (or ma

Female Property Owners
Bunheads Episode 13 "I'll Be Your Meyer Lansky"/Firefly Episode 13 "Heart of Gold"Fanny and Michelle take steps to better utilize their land, while Inara enlists the Serenity crew to help an old friend defend her brothel. Both episodes feature characters being forced to the ground, as well as villainous characters who are passionate about theater and getting what they want

BEEEEEANS!!!!!
Firefly Episode 12 "The Message"/Bunheads Episode 12 "Channing Tatum Is a Fine Actor"Just when we thought Amy was out of things to borrow from Joss, she went ahead and borrowed beans. Not only that, but both shows also feature fake moustaches, stupid hats, a new mysterious guy starting a flirtation with a main character, and men with classically female names. We're willing

Secret Package
Bunheads Episode 11 "You Wanna See Something?"/Firefly Episode 11 "Trash"This week both Sasha and YoSafBridge are hiding romances and being smuggled around as contraband, having recently reappeared after doing other gigs. Torture
Firefly Episode 10 "War Stories"/Bunheads Episode 10 "A Nutcracker in Paradise"Michelle tortures a room full of people completely by accident, while Malcom gets tortured by a creepy old man who's just super into torture. Michelle and Malcom are both caught in the middle of lovers who aren't communicating very well. Michael disappears partway through this episode, just

Lying to Get Drugs
Bunheads Episode 9 "No One Takes Khaleesi's Dragons"/Firefly Episode 9 "Ariel"While our Firefly friends do a heist to steel drugs from the rich, Michelle elaborately lies to the town, so she can have some grocery store coffee. Wash and Kaylee build an emergency vehicle out of junk, while Fanny attempts to cast a Nutcracker with inferior dancers. The usually graceful Ginny

Getting the Part
Firefly Episode 8 "Out of Gas"/Bunheads Episode 8 "Blank Up, It's Time"Malcom disparately needs to find a part in order to save his crew. Meanwhile Boo receives a part completely out of the blue. We learn that Inara has almost as many rules as Fanny, and that some of both their rules have recently been broken. We learn that Zoë was initially not a fan of Wash, so perhaps t

One-Eyed, Scruffy Men
Bunheads Episode 7 "What's Your Damage, Heather?"/Firefly Episode 7 "Jaynestown"One's a familiar face from Jayne's past, back for revenge. The other's a familiar face from our Gilmore Slayer past, back as a sh*tty plumber, and they both have one eye. Coincidence, Amy!?! It's hard to imagine which smells worse, Fanny's mildewy dressing room, or Jayn

Busty Redheads Not Acting Themselves
Firefly Episode 6 "Our Mrs. Reynolds"/Bunheads Episode 6 "Movie Truck"One's a trained companion gone rouge, and one's a dress shop owner who hosts a book club at her out-of-town friend's house, but both of these ladies are trying to be someone else today. Both must find a way to sneak into/out of vehicle, but opt not to do it by seducing women. Both episodes feat

A Meaningful Dance
Bunheads Episode 5 "Money for Nothing"/Firefly Episode 5 "Safe"This week the bunheads AND River get to express themselves through dance, at least until the forces of evil enter. For River, evil is kidnappers; for the bunheads, it's grocery bags. Malcom negotiates a fair price for the cows he's been flying around, while Michelle negotiates her way into a teen hangout a

Wearable Peace Offerings
Firefly Episode 4 "Shindig"/Bunheads Episode 4 "Better Luck Next Year"Both Malcom and Sasha have been a bit snotty lately, so they offer Kaylee/Boo a dress/pointe shoes in hopes of winning back their friendship. Boo and Summer briefly change their identities in order to trick someone who could decide their fate. Inara has two men fighting over her on the dance floor, while Mich

Cuffed
Bunheads Episode 3 "Inherit the Wind"/Firefly Episode 3 "Bushwhacked"Uh oh! Our lead characters have gone and gotten themselves arrested for being somewhere they shouldn't be. Also both of them spend this episode acquiring property from the recently deceased and discovering strange men in the homes they invited themselves into. The Serenity crew discovers a bunch of dead b

Mitchum Returns
Firefly Episode 2 "The Train Job"/Bunheads Episode 2 "For Fanny"Lots of similarities this week including one very obvious one. We're treated to the same guest star in both episodes, playing two very different characters. There's also a smaller connection, in that Firefly's location of the week has a very similar name to the setting of Bunheads. We've got cha

New Journeys With Familiar Faces
Bunheads Episode 1 "Pilot"/Firefly Episode 1 "Serenity"We started two new shows that were cancelled too soon, created by the same people as the other shows we used to talk about, and boy do they both loooove to reuse actors. New shows mean new names for Bryan to learn, and you'll be unsurprised to find out he is NOT good at it. The similarities are slim so far, but we&apos

Gil...MORE!?
Our last Gilmore Girls episode was getting a little long, so we decided to record another one to wrap some of our lingering Gilmore thoughts. We discuss who we think Rory should end up with, including the completion of Bryan's teased thoughts on Jess and Rory. We break down the final four words and our feelings on the ending. We pitch some ideas for what the show might look like if they were

Buffy Season 8: Part 4
Well friends, we've reached the end of the Buffy Season 8 comics. They started off a little weird, then got so much weirder and more pornographic than we ever could have imagined. Buffy's straight-up a super hero now, though we're still not sure we understand why. You'll be happy to know, Giles' horses are still in the picture, though who has them might surprise you. Much

A Year in the Life: Fall
We did it! We finished all of Gilmore Girls and recorded our longest episode ever! Probably our longest intro ever too, due to some neighbor drama and lingering thoughts about bidets. For as many issues as the revival series has, we really enjoyed this episode with its barrage of old characters and tear-jerking scenes. We do our best to figure out the meaning of whales and what the heck the show i

Buffy Season 8: Part 3
Welp, things certainly haven't gotten less weird in the Buffy comics since we last chatted. We get appearances by plenty of old friends from the TV show and get introduced to vampy cats! You know, vampy cats... adorable, little, women-hating terror creatures. Harmony gets her own reality show, which somehow alters the status quo of the entire world. We meet a group of werewolves who are super

Our Recent Adventures
We're taking a break from our regularly-scheduled content to tell you about our travels! First, we share our experience hosting the Gilmore Girls cast panel, including which cast member has an alter ego. Then we move on to Italy, where we found bidets quite overwhelming. Florence had both the best and worst food, including sandwiches made by sloths. We encountered a few scams involving roses,

A Year in the Life: Summer
Oh Summer... you were definitely weird and bad at times, but we still had fun. Lorelai volunteers to watch the first draft of Taylor's musical, for which she definitely had some notes, and so do we! Rory volunteers for a job that most definitely should pay. However, money rules tend to defy logic in Rory's orbit. Emily slept iiin!? She's also dating, eating in the living room, and h

Buffy Season 8: Part 2
Okay, so things definitely got a bit weirder in this chunk of comics. We've got tree people; we've got a fish man; we've got a real sexy snake lady, and boy, does Dawn get up to some stuff. Our heroes travel the globe, and reunite with a very famous vampire from Season 5. Buffy travels through time to future New York City, where she's meets someone famous from the comics with a

A Year in the Life: Spring
It's Wookie week! Rory still can't figure out her life, and Lorelai's is maybe starting to crumble a bit as well. We get to see a lot of old familiar faces in this episode, as well as one we've never seen. We take a trip back to Chilton where we get a whole lotta Headmaster, and liiiittle bit of the side of fake Tristan's face. It's hard to tell which is more impressi

Buffy Season 8: Part 1
We've got some notes, per ushe, but we're really digging the comics so far! ...despite the super creepy, possibly problematic, underground slime monster. Buffy's back with a full slayer army, a big ole slayer budget, and big ole lil sis. The big bad seems to be a Marvel villain with a hairy chest and a secret identity... fer NOW! We get a lot of fun cameos, a very satisfying amount

A Lil' Update
As you may have heard, we're going to be doing some traveling coming up. We're heading to Maine for the Gilmore Girls Fan Festival. One of use has a work trip, and we've finally booked our trip to Italy! Rather than put a big ole pause in the middle of Season 8, we've decided it will be best to start releasing episodes every other week for the next few months. This episode expl

A Year in the Life: Winter
We're kicking off Season 8 by heading back to a snowy Stars Hollow to see what our old friends are up to! Some things have changed a lot in the last 9 years, but mostly things are weirdly pretty much the same. Luke and Lorelai don't seem to have had any meaningful conversations since we last saw them, unless you count the time Luke said, "That's the kid." Of course we were

In Summation...
This week, we summarize our thoughts on both series overall. We choose 10 favorite episodes from each show for a hypothetical weekend binge. Bryan can't believe Stacey didn't pick "Haunted Leg" but if you're counting, Bryan actually picked 11 Buffy episodes, so maybe she would have if she knew you could cheat. We make some final comparisons, realizing there's an inter

Some Time to Reflect
We've been feeling a little overwhelmed by life, work, and Ikea dressers, so we decided to delay our series wrap-up episode until next week and bring you an episode reflecting on some of our favorite recent social media comments! We shout some of you out, sharing some fun thoughts, theories, and trivia you've passed along lately, as well as share which series some of you thought was bett

Season 7 Wrap-up
In this special episode, we recap our thoughts on Season 7. We count down our top 5 moments from both shows, discuss our least favorite moments, reveal our favorite episodes, point out some similarities, and decide which show had a better season overall. Most would agree that neither show is at its best in Season 7, but we still enjoyed ourselves immensely! Despite these seasons not having all tha

Barbenheimer
This week we took a break from our regularly-scheduled programing to tell you about our Barbenheimer experience! (recorded the day after viewing) Would you believe we actually found quite a few similarities between these two movies? Obviously thoughts of death, but also Nobel Prizes, horses, and mermaids in both?!? (Amy? Rebecca Rand Kirshner? Was this your doing?) Both movies were excellent. We c

Last-Minute Necklaces
Gilmore Girls S7 E22 "Bon Voyage"/Buffy S7 E22 "Chosen"Lorelai and Spike receive necklaces from their loves, as well as the bigger expressions of love they've been waiting for. Lorelai and Faith don't have time to be sad, so they channel those emotions into fighting Turok-Hans and power ironing. Rory and Buffy are still conflicted about their love lives, but have come

Surprised by Shiny Objects
Buffy S7 E21 "End of Days"/Gilmore Girls S7 E21 "Unto the Breach"Things get a lot more interesting for Buffy and Rory after receiving their respective objects, but will these objects be... the last surprise? The lore of Buffy's scythe comes kind of out of nowhere, but so does Rory's sudden acceptance of her uncertain future. Andrew and Anya get into a playful wheelcha

Hiding in Bed From the World
Gilmore Girls S7 E20 "Lorelai? Lorelai?"/Buffy S7 E20 "Touched"Rory and Buffy's worlds are crumbling around them, so they hide in beds that may or may not be theirs. Lorelai and Spike "take the stage" to cheer up their girls but soon find themselves in the middle of beautiful declarations of love. Luke's mysteriously back to wearing his old hat. (We did late

Bike Chats
Buffy S7 E19 "Empty Places"/Gilmore Girls S7 E19 "It's Just Like Riding a Bike"Giles has banished Spike and Andrew, and Lorelai's Jeep is busted, so this week, they're riding bikes! But that's not the only mode of transportation these episodes have in common. We learn that Michel and Clem both drive Volkswagens! Doyle gets kicked out of his apartment and his

She Made a Bold Choice
Gilmore Girls S7 E18 "Hay Bale Maze"/Buffy S7 E18 "Dirty Girls"Faced with big choices, Rory says no to the ProJo after much deliberation, and after nearly no deliberation, Buffy says yes to leading her crew into a super sus winery. Mommy Issues
Buffy S7 E17 "Lies My Parents Told Me"/Gilmore Girls S7 E17 "Gilmore Girls Only"Whether via road trip to visit an old mother figure, or a trip down mommy lane brought on by a magic slug, everyone's confronting their mama drama. Hot for Teacher
Gilmore Girls S7 E14 "Farewell, My Pet"/Buffy S7 E14 "First Date"Buffy starts dating her boss/the principal, while Rory develops a big stupid crush on her new TA, in a very Buffy meets Riley manner. Rory's not the only one awkwardly flirting and allowing a "beast to emerge" this week, as Xander falls for yet another demon, who's planning some beast emergence

An Unexpected Plot Twist
We interrupt our regularly scheduled programing...We're so sorry, everyone, but there's no regular podcast episode this week. As much as we would have loved to have given you one, it's been a bit of a crazy week. Stacey had a big work event to prep for, and her niece came to stay with us for 5 days. The next 2 weeks worth of episodes are all watched and recorded, but unfortunately t

What's He Doing Here?
Buffy S7 E13 "The Killer in Me"/Gilmore Girls S7 E13 "I'd Rather Be in Philadelphia"Christopher and the Scoobies certainly aren't thrilled about the unexpected appearance of Luke and Warren, respectively. Willow copes with her grief by buying a gun, while Emily copes by buying way too much fish. After experiencing sudden pains, Richard and Spike find out they need to

Am I Not the One?
Gilmore Girls S7 E12 "To Whom it May Concern"/Buffy S7 E12 "Potential"Dawn and Christopher realize they may not be "the one." Gilmore Girls S7 E8 "Introducing Lorelai Planetarium"/Buffy S7 E8 "Sleeper"After mingling with some new people out on the town, Rory and Spike come to the realization that they were maybe kinda mean recently. Twists, French and Otherwise
Buffy S7 E7 "Conversations with Dead People"/Gilmore Girls S7 E7 "French Twist"Both shows have 3 separate stories, following our female leads or their friends, and twist... they all have twist endings. His Emblem
Gilmore Girls S7 E6 "Go, Bulldogs!"/Buffy S7 E6 "Him"One's sewn onto a bespelled, hand-me-down jacket, and one's a whole novel written on a nametag, but these boys are sporting their emblems proudly. It might be because there's a love spell in the air, or because it's parents weekend, but let's just say things are getting a little "adult" on c

Intimidating Legs
Buffy S7 E5 "Selfless"/Gilmore Girls S7 E5 "The Great Stink"Anya must face the consequences after conjuring a murderous spider demon, and Rory's not exactly thrilled about the leggy creature Logan brought back from London. This Buffy episode dives deep into Anya's backstory, while Gilmore Girls takes a shallow wade into Richard's history with radishes. The Buffy

Have You Been Drinking?
Gilmore Girls S7 E4 "'S Wonderful, 'S Marvelous"/Buffy S7 E4 "Help"The AUDACITY of that police officer, suggesting Emily Gilmore take a breathalyzer!
